National Youth Convention for Peace
By Albert FALL | LNC
(Bangui, July 16, 2026 | LAMINE MÉDIA) Yesterday, Wednesday, a national youth convention for peace and institutional stability was held at the National Social Security Fund (CNSS) in Bangui. Organized by the Youth Advisory Council and the "Émergence 2025" Platform, the meeting resulted in the drafting of a memorandum to be presented to President Touadéra. However, all of this remains theoretical; the concept of "Central African youth" is somewhat vague, making it difficult to speak under a single banner. Nevertheless, the meeting aimed precisely to raise awareness among Central African youth—a generation seen as destined to play a major role in consolidating the country's peace and stability. Against a backdrop of security crises and armed conflict, participants discussed lessons learned from the 2013 crisis. According to the organizers, young people have often been vulnerable to manipulation and exploitation by certain political actors. The convention featured the screening of a documentary covering the 2013 crisis, the progress made since then, and the challenges that persist today. This was followed by interactive sessions and Q&A periods among the participants. These discussions allowed young people to share their views on the country's situation and their own roles in conflict prevention and peacebuilding. At the conclusion of the meeting, a prefectural committee for vigilance and the defense of the homeland was established. According to Gutenberg Taramboye, Vice-President of the Youth Advisory Council, the committee’s mission will include helping to present the memorandum to the Head of State and acting as a liaison with young people across Bangui’s various districts. "This committee will play a pivotal role in presenting the memorandum to the President of the Republic and in liaising with their peers in the districts." The memorandum includes several recommendations, notably the implementation of a specific youth-oriented program designed to strengthen young people's involvement in initiatives for peace, stability, and national development. One can only hope they are heard.
