Work on setting up the youth committee

(Bangui, 13 June 2026 | LAMINE MEDIA) Since last Wednesday, in Bangui, over a 48-hour period, around a hundred young delegates from Bangui and the country’s fifteen prefectures have been working to finalise key documents, a decisive step towards establishing a body intended to serve as a pillar of youth civic participation. The opening ceremony was presided over by Héritier Doneng, Minister for Youth Development; this workshop benefits from the technical and financial support of MINUSCA and UNICEF. Basically, they are the ones footing the bill. Technically, this workshop was established by decree in 2024 against a backdrop of recurring crises within youth organisations, which is why the Advisory Council is now taking shape. Once the texts have been approved, a wide-ranging process to establish decentralised bodies will begin, with the setting up of offices at prefectural and sub-prefectural levels, as well as in the districts of Bangui, Bimbo and Bégoua. This process will culminate in the election of a National Bureau tasked with leading the Advisory Council’s work and ensuring its influence across the entire country.. This council, known as the CCJC, is intended to fulfil the international commitments undertaken by the Central African Republic, particularly with regard to youth participation in public governance. The CCJC is already aligned with the provisions of the African Youth Charter, in particular Article 12, which encourages the effective involvement of young people in decision-making processes. In conclusion, with this framework, once established, the authorities aim to foster a responsible youth, aware of their civic role and capable of actively contributing to the country’s development. Ultimately, this workshop should lead to the creation of a solid, inclusive and consensual legal foundation, which will enable Central African youth to equip themselves to make their voices heard and to establish themselves as a key player in strengthening democracy and national stability in the long term.
