Women’s Football: Algeria - CAR
Republie
By Nathalie CLOONEY l LAMINE MÉDIA
(Algiers on October 9, 2026, the LAMINE MÉDIA) Less than two months after their historic achievement at the 2026 AFCON, the Algerian national women’s selection begins its journey towards the Olympic Games in Los Angeles 2028. This Friday, October 9 at 6:00 pm, the players of Farid Benstiti face the Central African Republic at the Stade du 5-Juillet in Algiers, with the ambition to hit a big shot from the first leg.
Third in the last African Cup of Nations and freshly qualified for the 2027 World Cup in Brazil, Algerian women approach this second round of the qualifiers with a brand new status. Driven by maximum confidence and renewed cohesion, the Vertes are starting out largely as favorites against a Central African team that is still looking for its bearings on the continental scene.
On paper, the Central African Republic is the host team for this first leg match. Yet, it is indeed on the lawn of the Olympic Stadium from 5-July-1962 that the match will be played. A major advantage for Lina Boussaha’s teammates, who will play in front of their home crowd. For the occasion, access to the stands was made completely free in order to push the Algerian women towards victory.
The national coach also reminded the importance of starting this tournament with the same seriousness as the AFCON: "We must impose our pace from the first minutes to take shelter before the second round." - Appointment at the beginning of the evening!
