(Bangui, August 19, 2026 | LAMINE MEDIA) There is unrest on the social front: on Monday, August 18, in Bangui, a group of contract teachers from Primary Levels 1 and 2 (covering everything from preschool to the upper primary grades) demonstrated outside the National Institute for Pedagogical Research and Development (INRAP). Amidst the sound of whistles, shouts, and chants, they demanded payment of several months' worth of back pay—at least three months' worth. The protesters called on the government to regularize their employment status. The mobilized teachers have announced that they will continue their protest action until their demands are met. The ball is now in the government's court; the authorities have not yet announced a budgetary schedule for the disbursement of these funds, particularly given that national public finances remain heavily dependent on international aid programs to cover operating expenses.
