ANE Facing Financial Shortfall

(Bangui, September 15, 2026 | LAMINE MEDIA) In a statement released on Wednesday, September 9, the National Elections Authority (ANE) announced the suspension of the residual elections scheduled for the 27th of this month, citing "force majeure," and stated that a new schedule would be established later. We had previously noted that the force majeure in question was financial, given the failure to pay some of its staff. The ANE has now publicly admitted that, under current circumstances, it lacks the funds to conduct these elections. Consequently, the ANE is asking candidates, parties, and political groupings that have already registered to suspend all campaign activities until a new calendar is published. As several candidates have already registered, the ANE specifies that operations already completed remain valid. The current suspension is intended to allow the authority to secure the necessary funding for successful elections. Negotiations are therefore underway with various financial stakeholders—such as MINUSCA and, more broadly, potential financial partners capable of providing funds. In the meantime, the ANE urges all participants to exercise restraint and to rely solely on information released through its official channels.
