(Sibut, 2 May 2026 | LAMINE MEDIA) It’s party time in Sibut; the city of Kemo, like other towns in the CAR, celebrates 1 May, Labour Day, which is recognised almost everywhere. The ceremony brought together citizens from all walks of life at Place de la République and honoured certain workers in the town with awards, as a way of encouraging them. Many workers from the formal and informal sectors, including those from Kemo, took part in the celebrations. In her address, Ms Lucienne Baka, Governor of the Kagas region, reflected on the reason for and importance of this celebration, before asking them: ‘Yes, we are celebrating Labour Day, but do we observe the eight-hour working day? Do we really work to earn the wages demanded by people who have stood up for their rights? Are we working in accordance with our terms of reference? These are the questions I have for you on this day.’ As for the medallist Blanche Issa, who was deeply moved, she said she was very pleased with the award: “I’m really happy, because I’ve worked hard to get to this stage; in other words, I deserve this medal.” It should be noted that there was no parade, as is traditional at this sort of ceremony. Instead, a gala match was held this afternoon at the Sibut municipal stadium, pitting the teachers’ team against the military team.
