When will the remaining elections take place?

(Bangui, October 13, 2026 | LAMINE MÉDIA) On October 9, 2026, the National Elections Authority (ANE) issued a statement confirming the practical impossibility of meeting the original deadlines. The institution cited the failure to release the budgetary funds required to organize the polls as the reason for this decision. This lack of funding has stalled the authorization of key expenditures, specifically the ordering and printing of ballots from technical service providers.
This postponement affects a series of partial elections intended to finalize the country's electoral map:
• 16 constituencies for municipal elections.
• 3 constituencies for regional elections.
• 5 constituencies for the second round of partial legislative elections.
The announcement of the postponement has sparked mixed reactions within the Central African political landscape:
• The position of the government and the majority: The Mouvement Cœurs Unis (MCU)—the presidential party—highlights objective technical and budgetary constraints that are beyond political control. It was the only party to have initiated pre-campaign logistical deployments on the ground prior to the official announcement.
• The position of the opposition: Opposition coalitions dispute the financial justification. They attribute the postponement to the executive branch's deliberate management of the electoral calendar, aimed at delaying voting in key constituencies. Several political groups had already threatened to boycott the vote, questioning the neutrality of the organizational conditions. This suspension of the electoral process coincides with a period of heightened vigilance for the Central African Armed Forces (FACA) on several fronts:
1. Securing the capital: The military high command issued an official statement to dispel speculation circulating on social media regarding an attempt to destabilize Bangui. Military authorities confirm that institutions are functioning normally.
2. Border tensions in the North and East: The country is facing security challenges along its immediate borders. In addition to a recent border incident with Chad in the Vakaga area, theWhen will the remaining elections take place? northeastern border remains under pressure due to persistent instability in Sudan, leading to population movements and requiring increased surveillance by the army.
No new date for holding these remaining elections has yet been announced by the National Elections Authority.
