(Bossangoa, 15 May 2026 | LAMINE MEDIA) Bad news: tragedy in Bossangoa in Ouham. A tragic accident occurred on 11 May on the Ouham River – not the ‘rivière’ as some call it. The facts: three children from the same family lost their lives after a dugout canoe capsized on this river as they were returning from the fields with their relatives. Five people are reported to have been on board the canoe; for reasons unknown, the canoe suddenly lost its balance before capsizing in the middle of the river. In the ensuing confusion, two passengers managed to reach the bank unharmed, whilst three children were swept away by the current. Among the victims was a four-month-old infant. Residents and locals arrived a few hours later, but it was too late; they were powerless to help. An investigation may be launched to determine the exact circumstances of this accident, which has plunged an entire family into mourning. It should be noted that in this town, travel by river is common, particularly for agricultural activities, and canoe accidents are frequent, especially during periods of heavy rain or when boats are overloaded. Several residents have called on the local authorities to strengthen safety measures on waterways and to raise public awareness of the risks associated with water transport.
