Government Rules Out Dialogue with the Azandé
By Firmine YABADA | LNC
(Bangui, July 28, 2026 | LAMINE MEDIA) This Tuesday, during his weekly press conference, the spokesperson for the Presidency of the Republic ruled out any negotiations with the Azandé Ani Kpi Gbé armed group in the Haut-Mbomou region. This is a surprising official stance, given that the government incGovernment Rules Out Dialogue with the Azandéludes former rebel leaders and that priests have been engaging in dialogue with the Azandé—who have been holding hostages for months. Regarding this, Albert Yaloké Mokpem explained that the Head of State is the one opposed to it. "The President has firmly refused to engage in dialogue, because one cannot take Central African citizens hostage and then ask to speak with the authorities. Defense forces are also working on this matter," the Presidential spokesperson stated. However, despite this refusal, several mediation initiatives have been launched in recent months: the Ministry of Humanitarian Action, local peace committees, and the Platform of Religious Denominations have all conducted missions aimed at securing the hostages' release and achieving peace. Unfortunately, nothing has succeeded so far.
