(Bangui, May 28, 2026 | LAMINE MEDIA) Just as there is a world day for everything, today, May 28, we celebrate World Menstrual Hygiene Day. On this occasion, Nadine Kossi, president of the Action Solidaire association, called on Central African authorities, partners, and civil society to make menstrual hygiene a national priority in the country. She explained that thousands of young girls in the country are forced to miss school every month due to a lack of appropriate menstrual hygiene products, adequate sanitation infrastructure, and reliable information about menstruation. She added: “Behind every absence, there is a dream on hold.” “Behind every silence, there is an injustice,” she emphasized, highlighting that period poverty hinders education, equal opportunities, and sustainable development. She stressed that menstrual hygiene should no longer be considered a private or secondary matter, but rather a matter of dignity, public health, and human rights. Consequently, she advocated for the implementation of free or subsidized public policies for menstrual hygiene products for vulnerable girls and women, the integration of menstrual education into school curricula, and the improvement of sanitation infrastructure in schools and public spaces. Finally, she called for an intensified fight against the taboos and discrimination surrounding menstruation. Speaking directly to young girls, she delivered a message of support: “Your body is not a source of shame. Your cycle is not a weakness. Your dignity is non-negotiable.” “For the Action Solidaire association, this day marks a turning point in the fight for the recognition of menstrual hygiene as a national cause requiring the commitment of all members of society.”
