Moloua in Birao

(Bangui, July 19, 2026 | LAMINE MÉDIA) It was in Birao—located in the Vakaga region near the Sudanese border—that Central African Prime Minister Félix Moloua traveled yesterday (Saturday) to reassure the population following the deadly attack carried out on June 30 against Am Dafock. It is all well and good to play the firefighter after the blaze has already happened. Accompanied by several members of his government, he inaugurated a health center and reaffirmed the authorities' commitment to continuing development efforts in the Vakaga region—and so on and so forth. "I came here, and I was impressed to see the young people of Birao who are in need of development. Furthermore, with the support of our partners, there is a development hub project in the works that will strengthen the investments already made here. Our wish—on behalf of the President of the Republic, the Head of State—is for the children of Birao and Vakaga to realize this," he said, among other things. Then, puffing out his chest, he delivered a firm message to armed groups, calling on them to join the Disarmament, Demobilization, and Reintegration (DDR) program; he declared that "recess is over" and urged them to "turn the page" in favor of peace and social cohesion. "Tell those who want to sow trouble that recess is over. Today, let us turn the page. We have a DDR [disarmament, demobilization, reintegration] program. Let them join this program so that, in peace, social cohesion, and harmony, we can work toward the development of this country." In short, he was just blowing hot air and making speeches. It is worth noting that Am Dafock, located nearly 65 kilometers from Birao, is frequently targeted by attacks from armed groups. The area is destabilized by the conflict that has been ravaging neighboring Sudan since 2023—a war between the regular army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
