Meeting of basketball governing bodies

(Bangui, 24 April 2026 | LAMINE MEDIA) A tripartite meeting bringing together the federation, the women’s federal commission and the Bangui league was held on 22 April at the Martin Ngoko National Basketball Centre in Bangui, with the aim of injecting new momentum into the sport, particularly among women. The aim was to define the broad guidelines for the development of basketball in the Central African Republic. This meeting enabled officials from the various bodies to lay the foundations for better organisation and to identify mechanisms likely to promote local talent, particularly among women. The need to revitalise women’s basketball was also discussed. As patron of the sport for the 2026–2027 season, Rosine Bela Eyebe emphasised the importance of drawing inspiration from past successes to build the future. She specifically mentioned the bronze medal won by the women’s national team at the 1966 Afrobasket in Conakry, Guinea, a historic achievement that remains etched in the country’s sporting memory. “This achievement must not remain frozen in the past, but serve as a benchmark to guide a new generation towards new victories,” she said, calling for this legacy to be transformed into a driving force for the revival of women’s basketball in the Central African Republic. More than just women’s basketball, this reflects a broader drive to restructure the national basketball scene. This follows the renewal of the governing bodies, from the federal board to the specialist committees, including the Bangui league. All that remains now is to wait for all this to be put into practice.
