Touadéra Meets with the Belgian Ambassador
By Fanta DEMBA | LNC Translated into English by Gwenaëlle DE LACAN
(Bangui, September 7, 2026 | LAMINE MEDIA) Touadéra received the Belgian Ambassador to the Central African Republic, Alain Leroy, in Bangui on Wednesday, September 2, 2026. This meeting seemed routine enough, except for the reason behind the visit, which is interesting. Alain Leroy came to ask Touadéra to support the candidacy of Belgian Dr. Hans Kluge, the current WHO Regional Director for Europe, in the upcoming election for Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), which will take place next May, as the Central African Republic is a member of the WHO Executive Board. This is similar to how France became a permanent member of the UN Security Council thanks to the votes of African countries. Meanwhile, in the US, Dr. Hans Kluge, in a very conciliatory tone, highlighted the Central African Republic's efforts in the fight against HIV/AIDS and cholera. He even promised that if elected, he would appoint a Deputy Director-General from the African continent and the Anglophone region. This matters little to Touadéra, who is Francophone.
