Bangui neighborhoods plunged into darkness

(Bangui, September 13, 2026 | LAMINE MÉDIA) Under normal circumstances—or "nothing to write home about," as the saying goes—the situation isn't great; but when vandals steal a distribution panel (one wonders why), entire neighborhoods in Bangui are plunged into darkness. This is exactly what happened last Tuesday, September 8.
It is worth noting that such acts of vandalism are commonplace in the Central African Republic—a country where barely 12% of the population has access to electricity. Lucky are those who own generators to cope with power outages—or rather, "load shedding" (it sounds better as a euphemism, even if the result is the same). Furthermore, the infrastructure belonging to ENERCA—the Central African Republic's electricity provider—dates back to the 1950s, the colonial era. This explains the frequent disruptions that directly affect the population—households, businesses, local services, and other activities. Owning a refrigerator or freezer is out of the question.
As for acts of sabotage and equipment theft, ENERCA is calling on local residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with the relevant authorities to help prevent future vandalism. One can dream—after all, dreaming is free!
