Opening of the 2026/2027 Judicial Year

(Bangui, June 24, 2026 | Lamine Média) Only the naive and the foolish still believe in the existence of justice or the rule of law in the Central African Republic—as Dr. Erenom, unjustly imprisoned, can attest. Both concepts are so thoroughly at the mercy of the incumbent regime's arbitrary whims that—to use a child's expression—it is all just a game of make-believe, a charade to keep up appearances. Thus, on June 19, the 2026–2027 judicial year was inaugurated in the Great Hall of the National Assembly. Attendees included, among others, the portly, polygamous Touadéra; the President of the National Assembly, Simplice Sarandji; Prime Minister Félix Moloua; the Governor of the Bas-Oubangui region; as well as members of the government, the presidential cabinet, the judiciary, and the diplomatic corps. The event featured the customary ceremony and speeches, including an address by the Prosecutor General at the Court of Cassation, Flammarion Goba. He reviewed judicial activities for the 2025–2026 term but also highlighted several challenges hindering the court's optimal functioning—specifically, a lack of material and institutional resources. He advocated for capacity building to enable the institution to fully carry out its mandate of overseeing State assets and resources. More broadly, the various speakers emphasized the need to strengthen judicial institutions, intensify the fight against impunity, accelerate the modernization of the judicial system, and align the Central African justice system with contemporary demands.
