(Bangui, 3 May 2026 | LAMINE MEDIA) The civil society organisation I GWE (On part) has issued a statement in which it refers to an alleged sexual assault case involving a Lebanese national employed by Mercure Logistique Centrafrique (MLC). The incident is reported to have taken place on Saturday 25 April 2026, during working hours, at the PK26 site on the road to Boali. The victim, a Central African employee of the same company, is said to have formally identified the suspect, as have witnesses. I GWE expresses its deep outrage and strongly condemns all forms of violence against women, in particular sexual violence, which it describes as a serious violation of human rights. It draws attention to the provisions of the Central African Republic’s law of 27 December 2006 on the protection of women. The NGO also expresses concern that the suspect is reported to have left the country as early as 26 April 2026, the day after the incident, under circumstances deemed unclear. This situation raises questions about potential failings in the control mechanisms. In the press release, I GWE announces the launch of an independent investigation to get to the bottom of this matter. It also states that Mercure Logistique Centrafrique is reportedly already implicated in similar allegations, citing in particular a case of sexual harassment previously reported by a certain Samantha Imanga, which is still pending.
