Hunt of LRA in the south-east of CAR

(Bangui, 23 September 2026) The news came through, cold and impersonal. The Ministry of Defence announced the release of eight people, including children, who had been captured on 18 September by the LRA in Mada-Bazouma. Honour has been saved, we are told, thanks to the intervention of the FACA and Russian mercenaries. But beyond the relief felt by these families, this tragic incident highlights a chronic failure of security. In the south-east, people live in constant fear. The LRA operates there as if it were a public park, abducting, looting and terrorising at will. And what do the authorities tell us? That the manhunt continues, but that no attackers have been neutralised. Once again, the symptoms are being treated with a barrage of triumphant press releases, without ever addressing the underlying problem. As long as Haut-Mbomou is treated as a forgotten backwater, the same causes will produce the same tragedies, regardless of the number of Russian soldiers deployed to Rafaï.
It should be noted that the region in question is rife with activities by suspected LRA elements.
