GenEgaliteECCAS in Bangui

(Bangui, July 31, 2026 | LAMINE MEDIA) A delegation representing the movement of women and girls from the CEMAC/ECCAS zone has been in Bangui—specifically at the Hotel Oubangui—since Wednesday, July 29, to discuss issues including gender equality. The aim of this gathering is to combat gender-based violations and promote justice and economic rights across the sub-region; however, the situation is somewhat ironic in a country that accepts polygamy (and thus the subjugation of women). The event is organized by GenEgaliteECCAS, a movement of women and girls established in September 2019 to advocate for women's rights across the eleven CEMAC and ECCAS countries. "The proceedings of this meeting focus on collective responsibilities aimed at empowering women in decision-making processes," stated Cecile Ngon Baba, a member of the GenEgaliteECCAS delegation in the Central African Republic. More broadly, GenEgaliteECCAS operates in 11 CEMAC and ECCAS countries, including the CAR, Cameroon, Burundi, and Chad.
