(Bangui, October 23, 2026 | LAMINE MÉDIA) As announced yesterday, the sub-prefect of Bambouti and two officials from the National Elections Authority (ANE) have arrived in Bangui, where they were received by the highest-ranking authorities. They had been abducted on December 28, 2025—the day of the general elections—by militia members from the "Azandé Ani Kpi Gbé" group in the Haut-Mbomou region. They were released on October 18, 2026, following several months of mediation.
Upon disembarking from the plane, the three former hostages from Bambouti were welcomed by members of the government and a team from the National Elections Authority. They were then taken to the National Assembly, where they were received by its president, before being escorted to the Presidential Palace. There, they were met by President Touadéra, who acknowledged the efforts of the Catholic Church, the parliamentary representatives from Haut-Mbomou, and MINUSCA, while offering the customary, perfunctory remarks. Subsequently, the three former hostages were admitted to the General Hospital in Bangui for medical examinations.
