Construction of a storage facility for seized weapons

(Bangui, June 29, 2026 | LAMINE MEDIA) Last Friday, at its headquarters in Bangui, the Ministry of National Defence held the groundbreaking ceremony for a facility designed to store up to 1,000 seized weapons. Construction is scheduled to take three months, with the entire project funded by the UN through the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). What is the connection? One might well ask. It was back in 2022 that the National Commission on Small Arms and Light Weapons (COMNAT-ALPC) began talks with the UNODC to mobilize the necessary resources to fund the construction of this storage facility. This funding is the result of efforts by UNODC officials, including Abdou Amani, the Regional Coordinator for West and Central Africa. "We are delighted today to finally see the realization of something we have all been eagerly awaiting. We can only rejoice!" stated the UNODC coordinator. It is worth noting that the building is valued at several million CFA francs; as for the Central African side—even though they aren't paying anything—they still lay the foundation stone for the photo.
