CAR qualifies for the CAF

(Bangui, 1 June 2026 | LAMINE MEDIA) On 19 May in Cairo, Egypt, the results of the draw for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers were announced. The tournament is scheduled to take place from 19 June to 17 July 2027 and is co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania. Following the draw, the Central African Republic was placed in Group F, raising legitimate questions about its chances in the competition. This is despite the fact that the Central African Republic has never before reached the CAN finals, despite several unsuccessful attempts. Group F, comprising nations with extensive experience thanks to their multiple participations, is now raising concerns about the CAR’s prospects. The likelihood of qualification appears slim given the standard and potential of the teams in this group. This low probability can be attributed to the standard of the national league, which is virtually confined to Bangui and remains amateur, unlike that of several other African countries. Added to this is the lack of a policy to support the sports sector, as well as the shortage of infrastructure meeting international standards; furthermore, the late assembly of players prior to matches often results in a lack of cohesion and harmony in the team’s play on the pitch. All these issues currently represent obstacles to the country’s qualification. Admittedly, for years the Central Africans have hoped to see their country count among the nations of the continent that have taken part in this prestigious competition. However, the chances of participation remain slim given the experience of the other teams in the group. Even so, in sport, one can never be certain of anything. F
