Amdafock Under Attack

By Susan CARTER JONES | LNC

(Bangui, June 30, 2026 | LAMINE MEDIA) Since 4:00 a.m. (local time), violent clashes have been taking place in Amdafock—located in the country's far northeast—between MINUSCA forces and unidentified gunmen. Several soldiers from the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA) are involved. Peacekeepers have reportedly been wounded during the fighting. Gunfire was ongoing at the time of writing, and the situation remains particularly tense. Amdafock lies on the border with Sudan, occupying a strategic position given the persistent instability that has plagued the region for years. Yet, the security presence on the ground is limited, with a reduced number of military personnel operating in support of MINUSCA. Furthermore, this remote region suffers from a lack of everything—starting with a shortage of transport and resupply capabilities, as well as security patrols that can only be conducted on motorcycles. Locally, as a last resort, appeals are being made to the Ministry of National Defense and the military high command to bolster the operational capabilities of the forces deployed in this sensitive area, in order to ensure the protection of civilians and prevent further attacks by armed groups. So far, there has been no response.
