We always read reactions to our articles closely, even if we don’t comment. That raises the issue of reality—the difference between how we’d like things to be and the actual facts. And if we stick to the facts: 11% of Central Africans have electricity (when it actually works), and in 2026, we’re celebrating the digging of yet more wells just to get water. As for the roads—don't even get me started; it’s unspeakable! An old-timer who lived under the volatile, megalomaniacal Bokassa used to say that back then—aside from the dictator's antics—life in the Central African Republic was better. In fact, we’re still living off his legacy; none of his successors have done a thing—Touadéra included! We had planes, schools functioned, roads were good—you could drive straight to Mbaïki, for instance—and, above all, civil servants got paid. It was a dream! Yet today, over 80% of the country's infrastructure is foreign-funded; is that something to be proud of? As for the rest, it’s in God’s hands—and I mention God deliberately, because according to that "white man's document"—the Constitution—the country is supposed to be secular. That means no mixing of those in power with religion, yet the exact opposite is happening. Aside from that—and a host of other things—everything is fine. Aren't we living out an Orwellian scenario in the "best" of countries? To borrow a page from Asterix, we’d love for the CAR to be a land flowing with honey and ambrosia, but—alas—no!
