Afriland First Bank Sets Up Operations in the CAR
By Serge LAMINE | LAMINE MÉDIA (Bangui, July 17, 2026 | LAMINE MÉDIA) Authorized by COBAC under the CEMAC single licensing regime, Afriland First Bank has become the first Cameroonian bank to establish a presence in the Central African Republic (CAR). Founded by banker Paul Kammogne Fokam, the institution reported capital of CFA 519.6 billion (US$906.6 million) at the end of 2025. In a press release issued on July 15, 2026, the bank announced the opening of its CAR branch, which has been operational since June 2026. The branch has a capital base of CFA 2.15 billion (US$3.7 million) and is led by Zavier Ngueutheu. This expansion is just one step in a broader regional development strategy. The group is also preparing to launch operations in Chad before the end of 2026. This project was reaffirmed in November 2025 during a meeting in Abu Dhabi between Paul Kammogne Fokam, founder of Afriland First Group, and Chadian President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno. Afriland First Bank becomes the fifth banking institution in the Central African Republic, joining Ecobank Centrafrique, BGFIBank Centrafrique, Banque Populaire Maroco-Centrafricaine, and the Sahel-Saharan Bank for Investment and Commerce (BSIC RCA). In the first quarter of 2026, BGFIBank Centrafrique held a 65.72% share of distributed credit, confirming its position as the market leader in this segment.
